A Heart Made for Sacred Space

What interest could we take in personal holiness except an unceasing revelation of the divine?

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
— Matthew 5:8

These words of our Lord speak not only of a future quality with the expectation of being in the presence of God for eternity, but a foreshadowing of that here and now to see God by virtue of God revealing himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.

Our heart refers to the centre of our physical, emotional and spiritual being. If our body is a temple, then our heart is the holy of holies—and therefore, sacred space because the Spirit of Christ dwells there. Consequently, every deliberate step into sin is hundreds of steps back from relishing the infinite fullness of God’s being.

A broken world is a familiar world with no lack of testing trials and sinister temptations. The battle of each hour is a battle for our heart. Let us take care to examine our heart against the mighty oracle of God’s word and embrace our priestly task for our sanctification so that we, too, may see him.
